(CLOSED) 20F Specialty Coffeehouse [Food Review]

Jalan Besar is once again seeing a new (and strong) competitor that is the talk of social media nowadays. Located along 20 Foch Road, the derivation of the name 20F is self explanatory. 20F Specialty Coffeehouse replaces the previous 60-year running medical clinic and now sits snugly, churning out tantalising brunch items and serving delicious cups of coffee using beans from Liberty Coffee.

It was December and they had a new Christmas Edition 20F Iced Coffee (SGD 7). There was a scoop of creamy rum & raisin ice cream in fresh milk and espresso, decorated with marshmallows, cranberries and pistachios. I am not a coffee connoisseur but I had to say that the drink was so smooth it sailed right into the abyss of my tummy. On the other hand, the dried cranberries and marshmallows fought for my attention which I gave to the rum & raisin shyly peeking through the brim. Don’t underestimate. It was a tornado in a little glass but a deep sea of satisfaction in my tummy!

Dad had the Prawn and Poached Egg Pasta (SGD 17) that came with grilled prawns tossed with linguini in white wine cream sauce, topped off with a runny poached egg. The dish came to our table smelling alluringly good and dad mopped it clean.

I had the Pulled Pork Egg Benedict (SGD 18) which consisted of a generous amount of pulled pork atop lightly toasted brioche with two poached eggs drenched in chipotle hollandaise. The eggs arrived threatening to burst through their frames and I had the honour of poking them. Instantly, they let flow a stream of golden river. The drying pulled pork hungrily soaked up whatever it could. I felt myself lingering around a desert, strangely loving the sun more than ever.

What’s a meal without desserts! We ordered the Very Matcha (SGD 8). Note that prices here are nett. For 8 bucks, we got a good slice of matcha cake with vanilla bean ice cream and a small tub of matcha sauce. The matcha sponge cake was moist and softly pressed against the rich matcha-y mousse. This was definitely one true blue green cake that deserved to be devoured clean and hidden from prying eyes and hungry stomachs!
